Edited by Stuart Cameron who writes for Up Country Magazine THE GRASCALS SNEAK THEIR FIRST HOTDISC NUMBER 1Just when it looked as if R W Hampton was set for a fourth week at the top of the Hotdisc charts, up pop The Grascals to claim the number one position despite dropping down to 3 last week. It was actually a very close run thing over the past few weeks between the bluegrass band, R W and the Bellamy Brothers, but this week it's the turn of the band to look down at everyone from above. Their cover of the Monkees hit - which was also a country success several years ago for a male artist whose name escapes all of us in the office. It was over 20 years ago it happened and if anyone can help jog the memory on who that was we would appreciate that! While the Bellamys slip back a few places and R W drops to number 2 there's a surge for David Bradley and Guy Penard who climb into the top five this week and have an outside chance of knocking the Grascals off next week - but there's a lot of new competition in seven days time with some very high quality new releases out there on the September Hotdisc, so anything can happen. David Bradley retains his British and Irish number one slot with "Soak It Up" and he will be the first ever number one song played on the new Hotdisc British & Irish Chart show which goes to air on UKCountryRadio.com presented by Phil Butler on Monday at 8pm. You can click on the link from our home page to listen, and you can also hear the Hotdisc Half Hour with Jackie Storrar who returns to the airwaves after a break. But that is not all the radio news we have for you because next month the Hotdisc Top 40 in association with Airplay Direct will go to air on CMR Nashville in a peak Sunday slot at mid-day, and the exciting news is that the chart day will move from Thursday to Sunday and will be announced exclusively on the two hour Top 40 show which will be presented by Stuart Cameron; so to hear the countdown first tune in to Stuart's brand new programme on Sunday 3rd October.. Listen to Jackie Storrar as she presents the Hotdisc Show here The Hotdisc charts are compiled from DJs and industry professionals' ratings of songs currently being promoted on the Rush Released CD. They are not airplay charts, as airplay charts cannot work in Europe as there are no terrestrial country stations in this area. The hundreds of country shows are likely to play a particular song only twice at most in a three month period, therefore rendering airplay charts insignificant in Europe. It works well in America where there are plenty of non-stop country stations but it cannot work here. The Hotdisc charts are therefore put together weekly using ratings supplied by DJs who give scores to every song on the last three months' editions of Rush Released. The scores are totalled up and averaged out per week to give an accurate guide to the songs which are being championed by the industry. The aim is to showcase the songs which the DJs and media people are pinpointing as top quality songs, which is a very useful exercise, particularly to all our clients and DJs as it is free of politics, hype and rigging and done on merit! MICHELLE WRIGHT
RAINTOWN
CHELEY TACKETT SUZANNE EDWARDS Since her first excursion on Hotdisc Suzanne has been building up her audience through radio play and DJs are certainly buying into her brand of music, and one for the reasons is that they never quite know what to expect from her, and that keeps them both guessing and interested. This time out of the blocks she performs a song which she co-wrote with the legendary writer Ron Miller (My Cherie Amour, Yester-You, Yester-Me, Yesterday etc) and it's the title track from her album "The Arms Of A Good Woman."

THE OTHERS THIS MONTH The magnificent Mark Wayne Glasmire is becoming a regular on European radio and this is hardly surprising with a bunch of hits already to his name. The newest single is very new indeed. Only recorded last month "Now I Believe" is a classy country gospel number with a message. The Bellamy Brothers have re-released the song which originally was the follow-up single to "Let Your Love Flow" in the UK back in the 1970s. It's time for a dusting off of the track which didn't even make the various Greatest Hits compilations from the brothers over the years. It has always deserved its place in the sun and this time it will surely do the business for them. "Satin Sheets" is the name of it and it's only just seen the light of day again thanks to the "Lost Tracks" album which has just been released. Another new name to most will be Dave Wood from America. His debut tune is "Simple Things" which is a very pleasant little ditty which is as catchy as they come. Two British newcomers are also unveiled for the first time. Charlotte Howard has a very good voice and has clearly got talent in abundance. Her new song was written by Robin Mayhew. "English Country Girl" is an earthy homegrown effort which flies the flag well - as does the record by Rockin' Horse who bring us another original British song called "Bar Stool Cowboy". They are a British band and member George Inglis wrote the track. Completing the line-up is Australian bundle of fun Kel-Anne Brandt, Ireland's Mexican Joe Walker, Albert Huizeling,w ho hails from Holland, and British outfit Mason from their 1973 album. It's probably their most commercial song from the set, "48 Now To Each Day" written by Peter Mason. Amazingly, as I mentioned a few months ago, the album has only just got a release after 37 years gathering dust on the shelves. That may be all for the new stuff, but there's also three more Elvis Presley tracks from the 1950s in part 2 of our Jasmine Records feature. Jasmine have released an amazing 64 track album called "Elvis Presley - Hits Of The 50s" and from it you'll hear "That's When The Heartaches Begin", "You're A Heartbreaker" and "Mystery Train" from a raw and exciting young talent who became a legend. And just to cap things off there's three digitally re-mastered country classics. Any bonafide DJ who does not receive Hotdisc's Rush Released can now download all the tracks directly from our website. Simply apply with your details to sturadio@aol.com and we will issue you with your password to access our secure site. Note that the password changes with every issue and to stay on the list you must return the reaction sheet each month.
